Airline industry analyst Matt O’Connor says he expects US Airways to start shutting down all its air travel within 12-24 hours as a result of an increase in ticket prices.
He says the airline will need to use more resources to maintain its air service to and from New York City.
O’Connor says that if US Airways can’t cut costs it will likely reduce its service.
US Airways says it is currently offering an unlimited domestic and international domestic ticket to and fro between Los Angeles and New York.
On Monday, US Airways announced a 25% price increase for domestic tickets, and a 50% increase for international tickets.
The increase in fares came as the airline continues to work with the US Department of Transportation to find a way to ease the growing backlog of tickets.
