President Donald Trump is calling Biden a “moron” on Twitter for his “lack of qualifications” for the role.
The White House is trying to tamp down speculation about whether Trump is considering 2020 Republican nominee Mike Pence, who has been widely criticized for not supporting Trump during the presidential election.
The president also ripped Biden for his criticism of Trump during a Sunday interview with NBC’s Meet the Press, which aired Sunday.
Biden, Trump told NBC host Chuck Todd, “has been a terrible, terrible, horrible liar.”
The White house has not immediately responded to a request for comment on Trump’s criticism of Biden.
The comments came after Trump on Monday night slammed the former vice president for not backing his vice presidential running mate and for suggesting that the United States should be “open to anyone.”
The president has also blasted his vice president’s past criticism of him.
In January, Biden told the Associated Press that Trump was “not the right person to be president of the United State.”
He said Trump’s “unfitness” for office was a factor in his decision to not seek the Republican nomination.
Trump on Monday morning tweeted, “Biden has been a horrible, terrible liar who never said anything right and the U.S. has been destroyed by him.”
In an interview with the New York Times, Biden said he was “surprised” that Trump had taken so many shots at him during the campaign.
He said he “never expected” to be attacked as often as he was.
The vice president also said he would consider running for president in 2020 if he was reelected.
